William:
Maximum pessimism... you are right: gold is there... actually gold WAS there!.. In this weeks BARRON's, Silver and Buffett are in just about every article BUT they have stopped bad mouthing gold. Actually these "specialists" have NOT told us (yet) what this silver hoarding means for the future of price of gold. They say that platinum is up 15% since December and Palladium 30%...
IMHO gold is next.
Time to select good stocks (i.e. ALTA which could be a 5-10 bagger if gold rises and if Olinghouse comes in line)... and take delivery of some gold, with any significant profit from investments (IMHO).
I received a fax from an acquaintance who read an article in Figaro Magazine (February 7, 1998, Paris, France. The article is entitled: "ECONOMIE MONDIALE: Chronique d'une catastrophe annonc‚e"). This article is actually an interview of Kurt Richebacher (a known bear, who talked in 1996 about imminent crash "… la 1929"). Nothing really new but the main sentence in this article is "if Wall Street cracks, the world economy is finished". That is not going to put a lot of confidence in the French who love gold, and who are nervous about the US $ stability.
(French can easily have 5-10% of their portfolio in gold related stocks and they collect gold coins as individuals).
French and Germany seem to be poised to keep their gold in their CB and the EMU, for it to work, most likely will be somewhat tied up so some gold storage.
Good luck all
Gaston
