* Vidikron has opened 10,000-sq.-ft. R&D facility in Jersey City
and plans to add assembly of Digital Light Processing (DLP)
projectors there this fall, Exec. Vp James Wellnitz said. To make
* way for R&D center, Vidikron moved sales and administrative offices
to separate Jersey City location. Company also opened sales office
* in London to cover Europe, Wellnitz said. Vidikron markets 3-chip
projector based on Texas Instruments' DLP technology with built-in
line-doubler ($60,000) and plans to add 2-chip version ($14,000)
* currently sold in Europe. Vidikron originally planned to have
2-chip model in U.S. by June (TVD June 2 p17), but supply has been
limited. It also is weighing entry into plasma display panel (PDP)
market, Wellnitz said, although no final decision has been made.
