I never did that ride but had friends who did it. Lots of hand cramping stories and one gal had glasses that steamed up and she couldn't see. Now, I ship my bike because of all the other crap that I carry.

When I rode the Tour Divide, Canadian customs took the bike apart (unbeknownst to me) and lost a critical part. The bike shop in Canmore got a special delivery for me so I could ride. They told me though that if the part didn't come in time, they would loan me a new wheel and I could ship it back.

Also when you have to fill out the declaration when arriving in Canada. They asked, is everything that you are bringing in the country with you? I answered "no" because of the bike being shipped to Canmore (basically Banff). So there were two main groups getting entering Canada. One line for US and Canadians and another for everyone else. A lot of US passengers had already made it through the checkpoint when I got there. 10 minutes to the desk and the guy looked at my form and asked what wasn't with me and i said my bike. Why did you bring a bike? To ride.. You need to go to line 2.

So I go to line 2 and the guy tells me that I have to go to door E (after 30 minutes).

So I go to door E and there are all these Hijabed people pleading their case at the desk. After a long time (I am in danger of missing my bus ride to Canmore (this was Calgary), I catch a guy walking by that looks like he knows something. He puts me in the front of the line and the guy stamps my form. I barely back the bus (without a much needed bathroom) break.

It didn't get better after that....
