I can vouch for the fact that a big part of the Ukraine wishes to remain independent to Russia. I am hoping that the differences can be reconciled. The Ukraine is actively allied to the West. Not saying that is a good idea or not, but they are. Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom \| ?????????? (mil.gov.ua) Hopefully the USA can help get everybody to play nice. Not sure if sleepy Joe is the guy to do that though.
