I lectured at academic institutions - MBA courses - complete different attitude as the students are grown-up. During the lectures I also "crack" a joke or two related to the subject matter it helps smooth out - not once received applause or thank you remarks if from students or teenagers.

IMHO teaching should be fun and interesting to the pupils, they should feel they gain something from the lecture and that is for all ages.

The old system at least how I know it does not instill this feeling to the audience at any age and your thorough knowledge of the subject mater and the holistic approach helps a lot - then they get it, that there it is something new that it is worth knowing and learning!

From math to physics to chemistry to biology to history and geography gives you a lot of free fields to explore.

Last week was asked - Napoleon conquered all of Europe - why he needed to conquer Russia and why he failed? - I explained the problems with energy rich Russia - weather, and long supply lines, dirt roads ect. ... and of course that he wanted more bananas - got an applause in response

The lecture was about EU and its energy resources (including hydrogen economy)
