That is a small possibility. The more likely possibility is that it will outcompete the other variants. This is how evolution works. Again, flu is a good analogy. Catching one flu variant doesn't fully protect you against another. But your symptoms get milder and you do better. This is how normal vaccination works. You catch a milder variant that protects you against the worst of the more malicious one.
