I don’t know what you mean by ammonia’s capacity for hydrogen. Nitrogen has a low affinity for hydrogen. It wasn’t until the 20th century that chemists figured out how to synthesis it, which requires a lot of energy. That makes ammonia a good store of energy. It has been used as rocket fuel! en.m.wikipedia.org.
