Sending fentanyl, methamphetamine, etc to your customers, thereby killing them, was a bad idea. 60,000 per year dying in USA. Goose-stepping in totalitarian obedience looks impressive to some people. But 6000 million other people dislike it. And won't buy. "Buy our stuff and do what we say or we'll kill you" isn't a good sales pitch.. "And Taiwan and Hong Kong belong to us do shut-up" is not a good closing technique. The human world is a process of identity formation. People don't choose to be enslaved. A simplistic view would be that Taiwan snd Hong Kong are like Crimea = should be in Russia rather than independent or in Ukraine. Then there are examples like Gibraltar, Falklands, Quebec, Scotland, Catalonia, Barbados. The people in Hong Kong and Taiwan very much don't want to be totalitarianized. China's Greater East Asian CoProsperity Sphere is getting a bit too Japanesey. Civilisation is good, good policing is good. But it can lead to goose stepping which is bad. The totalitarian types seem to think goose stepping looks great = all energetic and macho. Mqurice
