OK.. I'm confused. This may be outside the realm of this thread, but
maybe not. I just received my Datek 1099-B and am confused on the
"Gross Proceeds" column (column #2).

An example of my confusion is:
On 5/7/97 I bought 100 XYZ at $15.375 (total cost basis=$1537.50)
On 5/15/97 I sold 100 XYZ at $15.75

The "Gross Proceeds" column for that trade reports $1564.95 after comms, fees are deducted. [Net gain is 1564.95-1537.50=27.45]

Do I report $1564.95 or $27.45 as my Capital Gain on my tax form? My guess is $27.45 is correct, but the note on the bottom of the 1099 says to report the value in the "Gross Proceeds" column on my tax form.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Datek on trades US stocks -- NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX --. They don't even trade BB stocks unless they already in you portfolio, not to mention Canadian stocks. I think your only choice is E-trade. I may be wrong.
