It's the "advantage" that you mention that still escapes me. If I invest $ into GOF and they give me my money back, slowly every month, what is the "advantage" on the portion that is just ROC? Decreasing my cost basis seems to be a zero sum gain event. Deferring taxes due is also not an "advantage" to me because before I invested the $, no taxes were due on it sitting in my checking or savings account. Just seems like I give the fund my $ and they give it back to me and then I have taxes due on top of that, to boot.

Believe me, I'm not picking at you for your specific investment in GOF. This is more of a frustration with the concept of ROC, which just happens to apply to GOF in your discussions. ETV is also, from what I saw, distributing almost entirely ROC.
