Robert, am I mistaken that you inherited quite a bit of land from your father?

Passing wealth from one generation to the next is a powerful way to grease the skids of Manifest Destiny.

I know my parents got next to nothing from their parents when they passed.

Hi Bob -

A lot of success and motivation for success is a by-product of the environment and background one grows up and is nurtured in. Most of that 2/3 living paycheck to paycheck are hard working folks and definitely not losers. Misguided and living above their means......yes, for sure. Most likely the majority of them are but a lot have 2 or more jobs and are still just getting by. Hell, I was in that demographic until my mid 30s when I finally got some sense and started saving some scratch to invest.

As an immigrant I guess I've got a different angle on this whole topic. I see corporate welfare as a much bigger problem than social welfare....the $$ amounts are certainly orders of magnitude higher.

It's a complex issue with many many variables. I've a feeling neither of us will ever solve this one ;-)
