I dealt with that too, and I admit to concern when I was pushing my environmental line in BP Oil International hey, but what about go-along-get-along for a raise? -sarc- Amusingly, I was promoted in part BECAUSE of my environmental ideas. It turned out I had success getting environmental improvements. Not everybody is willing to sell their soul for some money. In Mainland China people pretend to be gung ho for totalitarian serfdom, going along to get along for a raise, but their hearts are not in it. A bit like Saddam's soldiers were just goose stepping for the cash flow and as soon as Americans showed up, they took off their uniforms and ran away in their underpants. Interacting with police and others in Beijing in 2003 I noticed that their taciturn exterior was often a disguise to get along in the money flow. Sure, there were plain clothes kung fu killers lurking around in Tienanmen Square seeing if I stepped over the line. I guess Made in China soldiers are on average somewhere between Italians and Germans in WWII. The Italians couldn't wait to surrender en masse, whereas the Germans would seriously fight and mean it. Neither were like the Japanese who had serious mania and still hadn't given up the fight a couple of decades later hiding in some tropical jungle. Even after a couple of atomic bombs they still considered carrying on. Mqurice
