getty,

I had something similar happen a few weeks back. I put an order
in the "middle" and even though I saw a half-dozen trades take place there I didn't get done. The whole time I was thinking "My order is not getting done right now because some ahole MM wants an extra
sixteenth so he can get a seven dollar cigar after work."

Go figure.

<<I had a buy order in today to buy 1000 shares at 32 5/8 (no restrictions). I did not get any shares even though I saw a fair number of trades at 32 5/8. These "commission free" transactions with Olde seem to be getting more expensive now that I am doing some day trading.>>

I used to use OLDE and the old adage 'you don't get something for
nothing' applies here. The execution of their commission free
transactions stinks.

I know little about Olde. However, the only way the firm can make money is to get something out of a trade. Possible 1/16 or 1/8 clip. DLJ Direct and other online houses that make a market in the stock, would exercise at the 32 5/8 when the ask is 32 5/8 or lower. The low for ASND today was 32 5/8 but that was the bid so the ask was never there. I doubt you would have been executed with any firm on a buy.
