Farm Stores also buy crap on occasion, Lee. It's a matter of buyers not being allowed to season and learn the categories and the nuances within them. It's also a matter of pay.

Most don't know anything other than what the vendors tell them. That's problem #1.

If I knew the store, I could inform you on their reputation for quality.

When you are buying something that could be a safety issue, it's always best for the consumer to think of who has the most to lose. In that case, it's the biggest companies.

When you sue Ace, you only get what the Co-Op is worth at most, which is nearly nothing. When you sue HD or LOW, it's a whole different universe.

Midwest farm stores sell what is recommended by their Mid-States Co-Op. I can tell you these are some of the most unsophisticated buyers on planet earth. Ace Hardware is pretty good, but their buyers only know what their vendors tell them. I used to advise Ace International. They even asked me to work for them.

One of their big managers knows squat. Which is to say, he knows how to squat on a Chinese toilet. I am not kidding. A person I graduated with from high school with was head of their logistics. He was the kid who willed their formula for NitroGlycerin in their senior class will. He used to blow up stuff every day in advanced Chem when I had that class with them.
