cooperating in the field of digital media infotainment center (C)1994-98 M2
COMMUNICATIONS LTD

-- DSP processors open up new opportunities in interoperability

Deutsche Telekom and Texas Instruments today signed an agreement on the development of a
Digital Media Infotainment Center as a reference platform for the provision of multimedia
applications. The basis of this is a future generation of high-performance digital signal processors
(DSPs), which will make it possible to considerably increase the flexibility in the use of different
applications.

The planned Digital Media Infotainment Center is a prime example of the broad spectrum of
potential uses for the new technology. In the home, for example, current and future TV and
PC-based content will be interoperable. Open multimedia uses can then make content available
across different systems and applications.

This means that it will be possible to access different content and services (e.g. DVD, VoD, IP
services, unified messaging, video telephony) via various access systems (e.g. xDSL, cable network,
ISDN). Thus, the transported content can be used on various terminals such as telephone, PC or
TV.

"Deutsche Telekom's aim is to provide its customers with greater flexibility and comfort when they
are using communication and entertainment services," said Dr. Hagen Hultsch, member of the
Deutsche Telekom AG Board of Management responsible for the Technology and Services
Division, concerning the agreement with Texas Instruments. "For this reason, with
telecommunications and information technology converging, interoperability is becoming more and
more important for us."

"Quite simply, digital signal processors provide the best solution for applications like digital TV," said
Rich Templeton, executive vice president of TI and president of TI's Semiconductor Group. "DSPs
are designed specifically for real-time audio and video with the flexibility to address multiple tasks,
multiple standards and rapidly changing user demands. Working with Deutsche Telekom gives us
essential firsthand insight into consumers' evolving preferences and desires. As a result, our future
DSP development efforts will be well positioned to serve the needs and wants of the marketplace."

Deutsche Telekom and TI are inviting other leading companies to join them in the development of
this high-performance open platform.
