We know these trials have not been fair based on modern standards and I think Peru can now be proud of its criminal justice system after looking at DC. The approach to date has been trumped up charges for minor infractions being used to say to the accused in effect, "We dare you to take this to trial. Go ahead, make my day." These people mostly cannot afford lawyers, and some of the public defenders have been heard making statements that suggest they shouldn't be representing these people. Judges, same thing. So, all I'm suggesting is that we reinstate the rule of law, and hold trials according to the standards for modern US courts. I believe it is not an exaggeration to say that no person who has been tried so far has received any discovery. Why? Because they are being told, "If you decide you want to take your chances before the judge, you're going to be locked up a very long time. You just need to apologize to the court (which they have all done), explained how "ashamed" you are (they all have done), and we will recommend x number of months (and all have done this). It is a little too cookie-cutter to call it justice. We finally have one guy who is going to trial, because he is charged but entirely innocent and he has demanded discovery. I'm hopeful this will allow the truth to get out. Anyone who supports what is being done here doesn't deserve this country IMO. My view is that those who cannot abide by our Constitution have no business here and ought to get the hell out rather than to duplicitously accept the benefits without the responsibilities.
