In the days of J. Edgar, yes. For your scenario to work, you'd have to come up with some reason why Wray, a Trump appointee, would have signed off on this. Or how it was pulled off without his approval. It isn't like a couple of agents agreed to do it over beers one night. It would have taken a lot of assets to pull off.

You will agree, however, that it has happened numerous times in the past that federal agents have been used to hijack these kinds of events in the past to end them before they got started, right?

Not without a lot of research that I have no interest in doing. Perhaps I just wasn't paying attention or have forgotten but I'm not aware of that as an issue.
