Justin,

I have been previewing W98 using the package that MSFT is offering. I see some subtle, but helpful advances, one being the FAT32 allowing for large capacity drives, and small (512Byte) clusters. Some of the 32 bit code, I believe, will add to the throughput. I tend to overlook the MMX channel, since it has been 'out' for a while, but that is really kind of a 'good' enhancement. I think that as the hardware reaches out, it is harder and harder to make the kind of significant increases that 'we' might be looking for. I'm kind of surprised that the HD manufacturers haven't gone to 'parallel' multi platter reading/writing, maybe 4 surfaces, at the 'nibble' (4 bit) rate. That would quadruple speed immediately, but I don't know how the motherboard will react? Interesting thought, however.

Thoughts?
