Children and Covid 19 ...

>> New York data shows sharp spike in children hospitalized, teens with coronavirus as primary diagnosis

"We strongly recommend not discounting infections among those admitted for other reasons as coincidental or harmless infections," a spokesperson for the Department said.

The following charts break down the number of new admissions for patients up to age 18 at New York hospitals during the 2.5 week period before the Christmas holiday weekend.

In more than half of the cases, COVID-19 was cited as the “reason for admission"; in less than half of cases, the patient was hospitalized for admission for another reason, but had positive COVID-19 results. Both metrics are increasing.

The daily number of COVID-19-positive children and teens that are hospitalized outside of New York City reached a new peak this week, though the figures are relatively small compared to pediatric hospitalizations downstate, according to the Times Union's analysis.

Health officials continue to strongly recommend COVID-19 vaccination for children age 5 and up and boosters for those eligible. <<

Not exactly surprising. As more and more adults are vaccinated or previously infected, the stock of potential hosts has been reduced, forcing the virus to mutate so that it strikes the more vulnerable, I.e., kids who have not been vaccinated or haven’t been infected. The virus is engaging in a simple survival tactic.

Pretty soon, I’d say within 9 months or so, we’ll be in endemic mode.
