Microsoft counters Java dispute
news.com
"If granted, [the injunction] could cause serious injury to Microsoft," Robert Muglia, the software giant's senior vice president of the applications and tools group, wrote in a declaration that later was made public. "Microsoft would be forced to pull products from the retail channel. Being forced to pull products back from distributors and retailers within 30 days would be disruptive to them."

Hey Hey what about Win95 crashing all the time. I would also call that a very disruptive problem to the average computer consumer and they don't seem to care about that.

I think MS better dip into their deep pockets for some better lawyers and give them some stock options. Maybe they should get OJ's dream team for this case.

I want to know where the NTFS system is in relation the FAT32? WIN98 upgrades to the FAT32, which allows for the smaller cluster size.

The MMX channel is similar to DMA (Direct Memory Access used by the disk system) but for the video. There are a number of added instructions which handle the video. MMX was developed when it was found that 90% of the CPU time was spent on 10% of the code! (Namely video display) While the video cards have the onboard memory, it still had to be loaded by the CPU. This bus lets the video do some more of the work without the CPU. ( Kind of like the Amiga used to do, so not really a new idea, don't-you-know, but a good one! )

As for RAID, when I'm 'booted' up into NT Server, I use my system in a RAID configuration, and my main complaint complaint is when the 'mirror' breaks, and it is the primary that failed, I haven't exactly worked out the 'repair' procedure yet. I haven't worked on it for awhile, so I really don't know where I am at on it! My W95 has 'melted' down a couple of times while 'testing' new software, so I spend time 'rebuilding' - you know the routine!

Yes the I/O rate is OK now, but there are some awsome CPU speeds coming up!

As for the W95 hangs, I have them mostly when on the 'net'! I don't know how that will be solved. The net gets 'jugged' up, and there doesn't seem to be a graceful recovery. They will eventually get that worked out, I hope, but it will be problem for awhile!

As for 'protecting' the FAT file, it could be done, but at what expense?

Thoughts?
