"Why do people listen to Harry Dent in light of his obvious inability to accurately predict the future?"
Back in the 80's and early 90's Harry Dent actually made some important contributions in economic forecasting by his work in demographic trends and spending patterns at various life stages. Other academic economists expanded upon his work, leading to enhanced forecasts.

Unfortunately, Dent didn't seem to grasp the difference between quantitative forecasting and fortune telling. He got off into selling his fortune telling services, newsletters, and books. He became a real huckster and ruined whatever relevance he had in the academic world.

he was once quite good at what he did,
and perhaps his season is on
am agnostic
he is likely discounting the FED doing QE GIGANTICA to stave off and reverse collapse
so am wary that volatility shall go high
