i have been dismayed with the attempts to censor Tim Luke's posts. - ian

thank you ian for this revisionist history. no one tried to to censor tim, all that was done was tim's socalled "source" was questioned which upset him. tim then decided on his own not to post his predictions, and then played on peoples emotions, as yourself, to make himself a victim.

tim reminds me of the menendez brothers who murdered their parents and then throws themselves on the mercy of the court since they are orphans.

unfortunately when you post, you leave yourself open to be questioned, some people do not understand the difference and feel hurt that someone would question them. tim apparently falls under this categorie of not feeling sure of enough of himself, so instead he avoids the argument and attempts to change the subject. one day if you take a basic philosophy or psychology course, you will run into these text book cases.

thank you for the post, and please continue to take part in the asnd discussion.

i have been dismayed with the attempts to censor Tim Luke's posts. Everyone of us must admit that we have at one time or another bought a stock on a "hot tip." We have all learned the hard way that such investing is foolish at best. Some posters have suggested that Tim might be encouraging uninformed investors to buy in on a whim.

Ian,

We obviously disagree. This is some the takeover innuendo that was posted in the last week.

2/3/98:
A deal will be done, so if "somone" can jump on the news as to whom and when will be like hitting the lottery.

2/3/98:
As for getting back in, well i will be honest with you I'm just waiting to jump in before the "takeover"..

2/3/98:

10:30am......12:40pm..P.S.T..tomorrow.

2/3/98
You seem to read between the lines very well!!!!![This was in response to the remark: "Sounds to me from reading between the lines lately this baby is primed for some news"]

2/4/98:
Not Goldman and I'm talking major blocks.

2/4/98
Gary if you get a chance to post the blocks tomorrow keep your eye around the trades in the 10-noon time frame (p.s.t.).

2/4/98
Sector, please write a song called: Anyday now!

2/4/98
No I'm still looking for 31 7/8 for the close, I think I might have good news for tomorrow. I will relay later!!

2/4/98:
But WAIT there is tomorrow and guess what is going to happen tomorrow ?????? pending ????? Hmmmmmm.

2/4/98:
Check the thread at 8pm pst.

2/4/98:
as an attorney I'm sure you can understand that I have to be some what vague.

2/4/98:
Regarding the Block Trades: I think I told you it would be either today or tomorrow, I never said for sure just to keep a watch.

2/4/98:
I will admit that I do get very good info. from a very good source. Being that I'm on the west coast and he in on the east it make it hard to get on the spot information. As you all know it is a very fast pace business that can change on a drop of a dime so I have spent my time and (long distance calls) for no benefit to me regarding asnd.

2/4/98:
I will tell you this much believe it or not "when" a takeover happens its a good chance I will know hours in advance.

2/5/98:
Not today folks but its building

2/5/98:
I think I turned in my walking papers last night but I will say this the best is yet to come.

2/5/98:
Its not by luck or a whim so when I tell you that a deal is in the works you can laugh it off if you like or you might say Hmmmmmmm.

2/5/98:
I'm not posting for a profit or to mislead anyone but I find now that it is a waste of my time when I have to get accused of spreading rumors.

2/5/98:
I feel like a little kid at Christmas time just waiting to open my presents.

2/5/98:
Question: A couple weeks back (I think) when asnd received a few upgrades and the stock traded down, why all of a sudden is the volume and the stock up?

2/5/98:
You know the name Wiseowl suits you! [Posted in response to this statement: My guess, purely a guess, is that ASND will never see 20's again. Reason? It will be acquired and ASND will not be a ticker symbol any more]

2/5/98:
Don't temp me, but my "instinct" tells me the best is yet to come.

2/6/98:
Not at all, its Friday the worse day for asnd. Just wait until next week if you want excitement.

It won't end.

Gary Korn

**OT** Ian, regarding your post to me; you point is well taken, and I'll be happy to respond:

1. This thread is intended, (according to the guy that started it), as a vehicle for the general discussion of Ascend Communications.
2. There are certain courtesies "expected" by the participants both in that discussion, an obvious one being: no cursing.
3. There are certain laws that we all must abide by. I cannot, for example, commit libel or slander against Ascend Communications without culpability. I can't use the Internet to commit misdemeanors or felonies with impunity.
4. Beyond these, in general, the rules are rather vague, but getting more specific every day.
5. The Internet is, IMHO, of a similar magnitude to the invention of moveable type. It dwarfs the telephone or the television.
6. Everyone in the United States of America has First Amendment rights.

Now, let's be very specific. Am I attempting to censor Tim's posts? If you want to look at it that way, then yes, indeed I am. Tim knows that. It has nothing to do with the First Amendment . It has nothing to do with Tim, actually, other than he's the one I'm communicating to. It could be Sector Investor or Gary Korn or anyone else.

One of my concerns, as you pointed out, is that others on the thread will lose money because they made a stupid move. You are right, there is no law against that. There is, however, a fine line here that you should be aware of. We are not talking about comic book collecting here. The securities industry is extremely regulated. An investment professional, (we both know some), has to pass tests and obtain licenses. If he or she breaks the main rules, he or she is punished in various degrees of severity, from losing said license to visiting the Walled-In Astoria. If Tim were a stockbroker, the SEC and the NASD would be looking at these calls he makes very closely. "Hinting" about a buyout is a, uh, no-no. (If you think the SEC and the NASD don't monitor SI, you're in a dream.)

Every post ever made on SI is available to anyone with access to the Internet. If one want a transcript, just click the mouse button. And if one is using free non-professional advice off the Internet to make specific, short term investment decisions, I think one is psychotic.

Tim is not a broker. The other guys that post up their opinions of when and where a stock will go at some point in the near future are not brokers. And that is one of the things that annoys me. I don't think Tim should be making those calls. That's my "problem", not Tim's.

But Ian, that was not the point of my post to Tim. Let's take Tim out of the conversation right now.

I'm here to contribute to the fabric of the thread. (!) The social discourse here, IMHO, should be directed at the betterment of all of those involved. Gary has a contribution to make, getgo has a contribution, Maverick, Sector, Tim, all those that are here and all those that have ever posted on the thread, all have a positive contribution. That is how we learn. My personal philosophy could be summated as: "keep it light, avoid the bad and reinforce the good." That's what I am trying to contribute to the thread. I speak from experience. I own Ascend. I am making a humble attempt to control money that is invested in the market. I can use some help. That's what I'm trying to take away from this thread.

Anyone who communicates with the intention of making others feel worse is not welcome in my home. Just as I don't want a criminal or a drug addict baby-sitting my 2 year old son, I don't want that kind of communication on this thread. Is it here? Yes. Will it continue? Probably. Will I continue to object to it? Yes. Will I, in a sociable way, try and steer the train if I think it starts to go off in the wrong direction? Yes. Can I tell when someone has the intention to make someone else feel worse? Count on it. Anyone who tries to make me or any of my friends feel worse will hear from me. First Amendment!

Ian, I appreciate your post, and thank you for it.

Now, who has the next big GX550 contract? Anyone?

Gotta run, dudes, :o) pete
