Not trying to butt in on Patriot, but you only give 1/3 of the puzzle.
We need 2 sides to figure the 3rd. The missing part is your cost.

For example: If I bought Compaq at $35 3/4, I could sell the
the March 30 call for 5 1/2. That is not good. I'm assuring myself
of losing money if the stock is called away.

Instead, I could sell the March 37 1/2 call for 1 1/8. Now, I make
money if it is called away.
