--why was the heating system apparently so inadequate that tenants felt the need to use space-heaters to
warm their homes?--

let me guess....
neoliberal/private sector 'efficiency'/'user tax'/profits?

Re <<Third world country, banana republic whatever one wants to call
it, we are there.
>>

Am still agnostic but swaying

I suppose it could be argued that ...

1. national and local leadership missing due to rejection of meritocracy enabled by culpable MSM staffed mostly by cretins who rose out of an education system that glorifies cretinhood
2. the domain's tax dollars mostly spent on items having little to do w/ common prosperity greater good peaceful pursuits
3. accumulated neglect of social, education, infrastructure, and mental cohesion over the eons allowed to be sustained through coke-n-pepsi one-dollar-one-vote protocol sooner or later begin to exhibit deep rot, hidden fissure, and must-tear-down-n-rebuild issues
4. as the spiralling-down accelerates, the same set up must come to grips w/ how to rebuild better and who to be volunteered for paying the unsayable tab
5. lacking further greenfield conquest, and bankrupt of external options, the system turns inward, and the primarily two but actually many blocks try to sort / hash it out, but given the deep grievances and need to vindictive votes, cheered by the same MSM that helped to sustain the unsustainable earlier, dialogues stop and shouting takes over

it might take some distance to see what may be happening, but I think folks at the epicentre ought to see clearly enough

that cycle dynamics are at work, and leadership needed, and not the sort of leaders that point fingers, but the type that take possession of the issues and move to do what is required

of course it could be argued a lot of other ways

(1) 'they' stole our jobs (by working more diligently with focus, and reinvested in themselves to do better still)
(2) 'they' are authoritarian (and it is our business to tell them so, because we are not authoritarian)
(3) 'they' do not trade fair (but we like to buy with paper dollars, and sanction w/ same paper dollars)
(4) 'they' whatever, whenever, however, wherever (and, in various ways we do the very same, but we have a spinning MSM that do not point out the idiocy of our ways)
etc etc etc
(5) therefore 'we' must try best to trip them up, deny them stuff and knowledge and recognition (because it is our business to do so, to improve the world even as we fall apart)

Let's see what the truth is, premised on the truth shall win, even as the troubles manifest themselves once the truth clearly lost

In one corner of the cretinocdratic CNN homepage that is part of the suspect MSM, we see the 'they' and the 'we' on just one issue, amongst great many issues

hash it it occurring at gathering pace, a guess, for Covid accelerates everything

with the likes of CNN, what genuine solutions can possibly be tee-ed up?

edition.cnn.com

(1) Re-education facilities bad, but bifurcating society okay

(2) fake N95s (i.e. KN95s) bad, even as simple surgical masks make do in all of crowded East Asia, and N95s better, especially if doubled-up

(3) Omicron bad, but light at end of tunnel in NYC

(4) China shall not work out, because 'they' are screwing up, even as GDP up, without extraordinary stimulus, amidst debt shrinkage by common-prosperity policy for the greater good

(5) Kids not going to school bad, even as kids going to school in East Asia without too many problems

(6) 'we' are not in trouble because 'they' are in trouble, even as young kids doing noing, going nowhere, and getting infected by ... oops ... 'us'
