"the Dems are heading for a political train wreck."

I'm not so confident. There's still a lot of time left for them to lie, cheat and blame a new crisis on Trump.

I wonder about how to combat and reduce authoritarianism a lot.

Re: "Unless Republicans commit one of those recently fashionable unnecessary unconditional capitulations - and refuse to make sure the elections are free and fair - the Dems are heading for a political train wreck."

I also wonder about using "recently fashionable" to describe what seems to be a long pattern of behavior that I call the UniParty. It seems like a big mess is created, then more controls (authoritarianism) are added to tamp down the mess or the noise people make about the mess, and then it is lather, rinse, repeat.

To me, part of "winning" is to get rid of the added control and the mess created before. We always seem to have to live with that - the control from "before". What if we didn't have to?

A lot of people lost their jobs and liberty in the pandemic. After those people get their way in the next election (or even better, the "before" election), then a lot of specific people need to lose their authorities. The noise these authoritarians make about the mess they made will be ignored. That's the best part of what's happened with the last few years. The old media and the Experts™ have so discredited their validity that we can get down to the truth ourselves at this point just by looking at who would never admit they were wrong when it was plain as day.

Mq started a list of the most obvious.

I will admit that I was formerly a foreign policy "authoritarian". Now that it's turned against us at home, I see the error of my own capitulation to unwise authority that I thought was bringing me the truth. But it is the same culprits who are fostering the authoritarianism against me now, domestically, that had me going on that track back then. Fooled me once...
