The original sanctions aren't doing jack to curb Putin's ambitions. Meanwhile, there's much more talk about an alliance between China and Russia:

Regardless of how tenuous such an alliance of convenience would be, it just goes to show you how irrelevant economic sanctions really are.

If you really think Putin fears the "severe costs" that Brenda is threatening, you are in complete denial.
