point of information--i'm not sure on this first point,but i dont think this unit is tubro.i have a yanmar on my tractor and it does not. the second point i'm sure of and the engine their using is designed for a constant speed and does not have a spark advance system.this explains some difficulity in holding traditional idle and actually puts the engine at a very slight disadvantage until up to lap speed. dtr

The primary purpose of the intercooler is to cool down the compressed air that heats-up in the turbocharger.Because the intake charge is cooled down the engine runs more efficient and COOLER.

The reason I gave the 18 wheeler as an example was to simply point out the fact that diesels, in general, are run slower than gas engines.
If your Volvo had a gas engine the redline would be in the 6000 range. In any case, even for an engine that redlines at 6000 you wouldn't need aluminum pistons.
