OFF TOPIC: I've yet to short a stock, but if AOL isn't a short candidate I don't know what is!

H James Morris.

OOOOpppps! Sorry to hear about your loss on CSCO. Hey, but it's an all time high now. Perhaps a short is in order now?

Gary

Morning James,

thought the same a few weeks ago,was lucky and made 2 points as i covered to go skiing. I'm glad i did that.
Too much hype with CSCO. Have you seen the report on CNBC yesterday ? They put them in the same league with MSFT and INTC. Trouble is - both have no competition, but CSCO has a lot.
CSCO is a fine company, but overvalued in my opinion. I wouldn't short them before they disappoint. The first time that happens, it may go down 30% or more within a few weeks.

James

I was buying CSCO puts back then too which I covered at 58. GOt a few Apr 65 Puts but they just went out of the money too. Luckily only way I play cisco is straddles and trying to leg out of each end fairly quickly.

What caused the 2 pt move in CSCO friday in the last 10 minutes?

Dan

>>>Its nice to be long in a infavor stock like Asnd but it sucks to be short in a infavor like Csco.Back a few weeks ago I thought Csco had topped out, Shit did I get that wrong.<<<

During the first week of January, I shorted CSCO for 2 days and exited quickly with a decent profit. Even though there was still another month until earnings, I didn't touch it again. Just looking back at its resiliency in the 2nd half of last year, a brutal time for networkers as a whole, speaks volumes of the strength supporting the stock price. When I shorted it, the market was undergoing another wave of fear over the Asian situation -- and scarcely any company, even the leaders, could weather such pessimism unscathed. So I knew I had the odds in my favor.

Now the market is looking almost healthy again...and surely in such an atmosphere, shorting the industry leaders is not worth the risk. Look at how strongly MSFT, INTC, DELL, and CSCO have been performing over the past couple weeks. I'd wait for another bout of the Asian flu to hit before shorting any of these titans.
