Some of the dogs on that list are absolute no-nos for anyone but the most experienced owners. Akita is one of them. For some, like the Tibetan Mastiff, the problem is solved by lack of availability. The Russian Black Terrier was bred for guarding military bases. That is not the kind of animal most people should want for guarding their homes. The American versions of the dog are much milder. Still, grooming them is a major issue.

My personal bias is that most people should only select from breeds developed by the British or Austro-Hungarians. No other countries that I know of has put as much care in developing their dog breeds. The dog should still match the owner and the environment, but your chances of success move up by selecting from that universe.
