John, The study that you uploaded is consistent with what I said about resistance. 6 of the 19 patients had detectable levels indicating that their virus was resistant to at least two PIs (Viracept and what ever else was tried subsequently). The follow up period was relatively short (24 weeks) and the investigators attempted to detect virus using an older, less sensitive assay (aren't the newer assays able to detect 50 copies instead of 500 /ml). Resistance is a function of time and 24 weeks is a relative short time. I had indicated that most patients would develop resistance eventually, and I was surprised when Jesse Eisinger reported that patients who failed Viracept also failed other PIs (since one of Viracept's benefits was supposed to be a unique resistance profile).
