Jeans, some shampoos and chocolate bars, women's clothing, etc. You got to keep your carry on to yourself, which was more than enough for a swimsuit and a change of clothes. You could make decent free vacation taking that stuff to Cuba and bringing back cigars. The world was less dangerous back then, and Canada and Cuba had (unlike the US back then) diplomatic relations and direct flights. Cuba would have never jeopardize the Canadian tourist income unless it was very serious, which this was not.
