James
Go spend $1,800 for a year for dataquest reports!
There you can see 5 pages of dram prices every month!
Dram is like corn or wheat !
Now tell me how much wheat costs ????
How much does wheat cost in the field ?
How much does wheat cost at the local store ?
How much does wheat cost, if you are buying one pound ?
A truck load ? Or a train load ?
I could go on and on....

I saw your question and think that the $2 referred to possibly
the 1mx16 price back then. This part is not used anymore and is being
phased out. It ended up being used on 2Mx32(8Mbyte) simm modules and some PowerPC modules and the supply was way over demand. The papers
should compare 2mx8 sync(main device used for 32Mbyte modules today)
and 4Mx4 edo 3v (main device used for 32Mbyte EDO based systems) and finally the obsoleting 4Mx4 5v(device used for 4mx32 and 8Mx32 edo Simm Modules). Any thing phasing out like the 4mx4 5v edo is going to have less demand and price should be less generally.
The OEM pricing is stabile right now. Everyone is watching to see if
Micron will dump some 2mx8 sync this week, end of qtr. expected to go to module houses that build modules.
