IMHO SFAM represents a better "value play' than AMAT although long term you probably won't get hurt owning either. I think the downside to SFAM is 18-19 at worst and the downside to AMAT maybe $20-23. My opinion is based on the lows reached at last fall's selloff. The bad news has yet to come and I believe that the April/May report will be bad for the entire sector. I could be wrong but with Korea and Japan cutting back semi equip purchases sequential growth will be flat through mid to late '98.
