Engineers tend to be more conservative than scientists, by their own admission. They are number crunchers, not explorers trained to see reality!

Can you not see how fucking dangerous and destructive the Republican is and has been!!??

In related news, only 15% of the best trained minds in the country are D's. I guess it depends on who is doing the training. Perhaps corruption and political affiliation have an inverse relationship for that profession.

Engineers tend to view themselves as much less liberal and slightly more conservative than the general public, according to a recent survey of over 1,200 readers of MACHINE DESIGN and Electronic Design magazines. The same survey also found that engineers say they are more likely to be Republican (42.1%) or Independent (33.7%) voters, as opposed to Democrats (14.5%). And although over a third of the engineers think Republicans represent the best interests of the engineering community better than Democrats, a majority of engineers (48.1%) believe neither party is really on the side of engineers.

Engineering, mathematics, physics and chemistry are disciplines and support industries full of people that value process and profit over humanity. It isn't that engineers can't be humanists - it is that there is a selection bias. I'm not sure we should base liberalism on degree attainment - not everyone can empathize with those of lesser talents, or see the utility of being kind to people just because we can. Frankly, I've never seen people be as mean to others as I have in engineering debates - especially in the 1980's. It was intellectual abuse and not fisticuffs. Both are bad.
