I have known people who got care in other countries, specifically Canada, UK and Germany. The US was worse in every case in terms of "quality of care". One of them had a son who got cancer and was treated both in the US and in Germany. Neither place could cure him, he died at the age of 22 after 3 plus years of treatments. But my friend--his mother--said that the care in the US at what is generally considered a top hospital (at Duke University) was woefully lacking compared to Germany. Others had less debilitating diseases and survived. Not only was their hospital stay far cheaper but it was much more pleasant than in the US.

But never mind that--after all, people come to the US get cured of some types of cancer so it must be better than everywhere else, lol. Forget about more people getting cancers and respiratory diseases and many more chronic conditions and lower life expectancy, those things don't count. After all, those statistics always include people who don't have much money, so they bring down the averages.

It is true my greatest concern about Obamacare was the gutting of R&D it would cause, and it has in fact resulted in significant problems. Even so, we continue to lead the world in R&D.

I'm not suggesting our medical system is the best in the world but with regard to Obamacare, it sure as hell hasn't hurt the quality or cost of my care..... I have access to every md in the area and can use major NY and Conn hospitals at my will.. And it's costing me almost nothing.. I use Medicare Advantage and have a supplimental health account of 3000 from my former employer....

You and your wife have medicare, so what else do you have.....you're close to major Texas medical centers...

And btw, no one has ever explained to me the billing system of our hospitals and mds.......I'm talking about how it is claimed insurance companies are billed large amounts and then "settle" for a mere portions of what was billed......I still am not convinced that that deep "discount" doesn't make it onto someone's income tax as a deduction... so what is with the phony accounting??
