I lived in Zambia when Rhodesia declared UDI, 1966. British soldiers were not sent to quell the revolt because officers would resign was the rumour. We had RAF fighter bombers in our town in Zambia, Ndola. The pilots said if they were sent to bomb Rhodesia that they would drop their bombs in the bush. These pilots socialized with us, they were soon demoralized. In fact they were sent back to the UK in about 3 months
