The CCP is not sitting around singing Kumbaya. They believe in human rights that are given by the government and can be taken away (if your social code isn't up to snuff).
I submit that all atheistic societies live under that same danger. If you weren’t created free, if you didn't receive your rights from God - you’ve received them from your secular rulers.

That’s why socialists and various other authoritarian / totalitarian authorities hate religion. It denies them absolute power. It’s not an accident that since the most ancient times rulers tried to be “anointed by God” — and in many cases promoted the idea of their ruling dynasty being descendants from gods. Some, like the Romans even had a way to legally deify their rulers while they were still alive.

Scratch off the labels, and all political power arrangements in history have a lot in common. Same components, in different proportions. That’s why acknowledging in our founding documents that our rights are God given was absolute genius.
