Looks like it’s mostly Western Europe, Australia and North America that are so big on covid restrictions and mandates. Affluent societies. You don’t hear so much about other countries. It’s like with ideological divisions - otherwise sane, intelligent people take up irrational, counterproductive beliefs - and nothing can be done about it. I’m talking about regular people - among the politicians and power brokers, many know exactly what they’re doing.
