Asians wore them mainly for protection from particles of pollution.

That's a true statement. My first trip to the Philippines, back in the 90's, saw many pedestrians in the city wearing masks because of the nasty air pollution, mostly caused by old smoke belching diesel trucks.

My last visit there (Cebu City), just over two tears ago (right before covid), saw much improved air quality and mask wearing was no longer in evidence.

BTW, I just read a truly scary article about the potential dangers of the mRNA shots. It's behind a paywall so I won't post it here on SI, but if anyone would like to read it, send me a PM and I'll send the article back to you.

I have nothing against vaccines and get a flu shot every year, but you couldn't pay me enough to get me to subject my body to these latest poisonous, experimental injections. IMO, there's going to be hell to pay for many, in the years to come..

Golfer,
Asians wore them mainly for protection from particles of pollution.
Yes, there's also the air pollution, but that doesn't change what I said.

Masks were more socially acceptable in Asia long before COVID. Even in subways, people would wear the masks if they're sick.
And if they are so effective why did Fauci not recommend them till Covid?
Because seasonal flu wasn't as deadly as COVID, despite what you antivaxxers (oh sorry, "nOn iDiOtS") claim.
