Hello All: Some old UPR info. from their website. I was trying to get a handle on what UPR is doing in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. The information at their website is old, but it gives us a good indicator of where their emphasis was in 1997. UPR is not the kind of company that shows its cards. UPR has several business units. I have included information relating to the Rockies and the Plains areas and their Minerals unit. I had no idea that Soda Ash was so important to UPR. There's nothing ground breaking here. Just background. I wonder if they are referring to NAMX in this quote: "úActively pursue a joint venture in the Plains to exploit exploration opportunities." And I wonder if they have us in mind for this property in Utah. It sounds like an elephant: "Evaluated and began drilling in a 228-square-mile area in Sweetwater County, Wyoming. This underlying Paleostructure may have potential gross resources essentially equal to UPR's current reserve base." This information demonstrates that they are committed to developing this area and that they are extrating a lot of resources from their land grant properties. They are not a passive landowner by any stretch of the imagination. UPR Websiteupr.com Rockies Area Highlights of 1996 ú Participated in the drilling of 81 development wells in the Green River Basin. ú Evaluated and began drilling in a 228-square-mile area in Sweetwater County, Wyoming. This underlying Paleostructure may have potential gross resources essentially equal to UPR's current reserve base. ú Successfully drilled first horizontal well at Painter Reservoir Unit. 1997 Plans ú Test 1,200 miles of stratigraphic 3-D seismic data by drilling 16 exploration wells in the Green River Basin. ú Construct a gas sweetening facility to produce 60 MMcfd of gas from the Brady Unit. ú Maintain an active infill drilling program at Wamsutter and Whitney Canyon. ú Continue horizontal drilling at Pineview field and Painter Reservoir Unit. Plains Area Formed on 1995, the Plains/Canada business unit focuses on exploration and development of the eastern portion of the Land Grant, the Hugoton field in Kansas and western Canada. Highlights of 1996 ú Increased Canadian production from 30 MMcfed to 38 MMcfed. ú Initiated gas sales of 10 MMcfd from southeastern Colorado through a pipeline built in 1996. ú Invested $6 million in drilling projects and discovered 11 Bcfe of new reserves. ú Shot 3-D seismic surveys encompassing 90 square miles in prospective areas. ú Completed engineering plans to construct a processing plant in southeastern Colorado which will recover helium and other products from our natural gas reserves in the area. 1997 Plans ú Drill 41 wells in the Plains, including 14 exploration wells. ú Actively pursue a joint venture in the Plains to exploit exploration opportunities. ú Drill 25 wells in Canada, seven of which will be exploration wells. ú Commence construction of a processing plant in southeastern Colorado. ú Invest $52 million in capital expenditures. Minerals ú Soda Ash ú Coal ú 1997 Plans and Beyond UPR's Land Grant acreage is rich in deposits of trona, coal and other hard minerals. The goal of the Minerals business unit is to monetize Land Grant minerals by increasing royalty income and income from investments in nonoperated ventures. UPR also encourages exploration for other minerals on the Land Grant by others in the industry Soda Ash ú Trona ore is mined and processed into natural soda ash, one of the most widely used chemicals in the world. The world's largest deposit of trona ore lies in the Green River Basin in Wyoming and about half of the production is from UPR properties. The first trona lease was issued 50 years ago. Natural soda ash from Wyoming now has grown to 30 percent of the world supply and will continue to expand. ú UPR receives royalties from all five soda ash producers operating in the Green River Basin. In 1996, these royalties totaled $26 million. ú UPR has a new partner in its soda ash joint venture. Oriental Chemical Industries Inc. (OCI) and UPR own the OCI Wyoming LP facility. UPR has a 49 percent interest. Coal The Land Grant also contains a number of low sulphur coal deposits. Six mines currently are active on the Land Grant and in 1996 generated $16 million in royalties for UPR. UPR also hold a 50 percent nonoperating interest in Black Butte Coal Company, which generated $61 million in operating income. 1997 Plans and Beyond ú Worldwide demand for soda ash is continuing to increase. Three expansions have been announced by the soda ash producers in the Green River Basin. ú UPR is working with our partner to expand the OCI facility to three million tons of capacity by 1999.
