When the soviet union fell, I was thinking that without the USSR to lean against and for the US to moderate some of its worst impulses, the US was destined to overextend itself and eventually self-destruct. People in a leadership position should be trained in holistic thinking so that they can see through the chain of cause and effects and interdependencies of their ecosystem. Rarely that is the case. The best thing for the long term US success would have been to adapt to transform itself to its new realities and remake the world for the better. Instead, the US continued as it had been but with impunity. So it went as I had suspected.
