Hi,

Would you have any idea if this product makes sense?

Snap!Server adds 4 to 18 GB of hard disk storage to PC LANS at a very affordable price. Preconfigured for Microsoft, Novell, and Unix
networks, Snap!Servers attach directly to the LAN to instantly provide storage to clients without file-server downtime, configuration, or
software to load. Price:under $2000

Remember that most folks still have trouble understanding the working of TCP/IP addressing.

Yes, I can sure see that, and that's what I figured NetBEUI still offers -- it's much more likely that it will "just work."

Incidentally, I saw a small part of a TV program where the IP address for the web page in question was "256.x.x.x," showing that someone in television understands how to manufacture a "real" fictional IP address, kind of like the "555-xxxx" phone numbers that every star has on TV and in the movies.

John, thanks for the opinion. Just started this thread today, and wondered if you might have a word of advice for me.

I'm running a two-system network, a desktop and notebook, with Windows NT workstation on both. I know the two Fast ethernet NICs and fast ethernet 4-port hub work fine, since I was able to get them working with NetBeui. But I'd like to try to get them working with TC/PIP or IPX, since these are the only protocals that apparantly work with LapLink. Might you point me to a good FAQ or guide for setting up these protocols working? I fiddled with it for a while last month, but didn't get anything else working easily. (In event viewer, I am getting a 4311, "Initialization failed because the driver device could not be created," if that's revealing at all.)

Also, any further thoughts you'd have on picking TC/PIP or IPX (or something else) over their alternatives would be most welcome.

Regards,

Dave
