I stand corrected re the IE 4.0..;-). However, I think you need to check out the newer systems under $1000. In todays Sunday ads, Best Buy and Office Depot are both offering the Compaq with:

233mhz
32 megs sdram
3.2 gb hd
20x cdrom
56k modem
2mb video ram

Circuit City is offering a Packard Bell for the same price and almost the same specs.

While I have the best modem available in the x2 line...a 3com Courier V. Everything, my ISP has decided to use 56 flex, so I am stuck at 28.8. However, even at that slow speed, I do not feel that my trading is hampered. I am hopeful that situation will change soon as I read in the paper today that a standard for 56k has been reached.

FWIW

I have just completed updating the Wall Street Explorer real-time stock tracking utility to handle the changes in the DATEK web site. The new version can be downloaded from

Turn off "show Images" really does speed things up, and my system don't seem to crash with the "New" site now. For trading though I think I will stick with the "Old" orders pages, they are much easier to read.
Thanks for your input, Ernie
