Windows is out then. I recommend Linux.

Do you really need a laptop? If you are working from home, buy a desktop. Use a tablet or average laptop to carry around home and even to remote screen into your desktop.

But if you want a laptop, I've been happy with the upper end Lenovo thinkpads. I have an X1 Carbon and it's very good and portable. But it may be a bit too minimalistic for some people. It's not cheap either.

I second Sun Tzu on the Lenovo. An AMD chip is wicked fast, and that's all we have in our house is AMD.

Make sure it has an SSD. Don't get a conventional HDD. Laptops are fine for trading, IMO, if you are quick with them.

Get 16GB memory, and a good chipset to load charts quickly.

Personally, I need 'screen space', so I use a four monitor desktop workstation. However, in the past when I was traveling to NY to help out with taking care of my mom, I used one of these. They support three additional desktop monitors via two thunderbolt ports and an HDMI, so I simply stashed three monitors at my mom's house, brought the laptop with me, and voila, a quad monitor system for trading.
