By protecting the men, do you mean against possible lawsuits or criminal charges if they happend into the wrong locker room by accident?

BTW, that reminds me of playing away games in high school basketball. We'd always have to use the girls locker rooms. No urinals, of course, so we had to go in the stalls. One time I went into a stall, and "Have a nice day!" was written on the wall of the stall in period blood.

Some ironic sense of humor that girl had.
