While watching sitcoms may harm ones barin and way of thinking/viewing the world, it does not have a negative impact on ones health physically I think the wives of a few million "couch potatoes" will strongly disagree with you on this one! So, I guess it makes little difference whether or not I express dissent here! :-) So do I take it that making drugs (such as heroin, cocaine, etc.) should also be freed?! After alll why put a limit on freedom?!! Yes, there is a limit. We stop at substances whose consumption can alter one's behavior. After all these years, I am yet to hear of any guy who caused a road accident under the influence of tobacco! The same cannot be said of substances such as heroin, cocaine etc. I never forget the arrogance of MO chairman back in 95 when in an interview on 60 minutes simply called the government and all those who are after MO a bunch of jack-ass buecrats who thought the US should be run like Saudi Arabia!! MO, more than any other tobacco company, passionately believes in guarding the individual's right to smoke. As for the bureaucrats, well -- it is they who are arrogant, because they think that they are the ones who should decide what is good and what is bad for us adults. After all, we do have brains! Or, do we? And btw, some of these smart-aleck bureaucrats are spending millions of dollars conducting "studies" on the possible impact of the methane gas from cows' farts on the earth's ozone layer! Now, if we don't label such bureaucrats as "jackasses", then the only reasonable explanation is that we are jackasses! :-) Dipy.
