After decades of not getting called, I get called regularly now. Last time was federal jury.

Don't feel bad, I've only received a summons once and it was for a July 3rd date.

I called the morning as required by the summons and was told court was cancelled for the day.

Imagine that.

I've never been on a jury, even though I've been a registered voter since I was 18 (which is where I hear they get the list to draw from).

I wonder what fraction of the population is like me? Am I special?

Yes, you are very special and precious.

Well, I've never been on a jury although I've been called for jury duty - never selected.

Maybe because I show up to court like this?

Curse you Red Baron!

In California, you get to call in for a week to see if you need to even go in - often you don't have to.

The, if you do have to go in, you may end up in the jury room where names are drawn out of a "hat." If your name is called, you take a seat and are questioned by both side until both sides think they have the best shot at getting the verdict they want.

The prosecution wanted me from the get-go and did what he could to get me to stick through the questioning.
