They tried DEC a couple of years ago. DEC was deep in denial. Thought they could market their way out of problems. A couple of DEC board members are rumored to have put the current deal finally on the table. DEC was an out of prime bride who looked into the mirror one day and capitulated to the dashing young suitor.

Tandem was probably the only available option in the time frame in which EP had to do something about servicing the enterprise computing program. Yeah, hindsight is great. IMO, Tandem and DEC, even though duplication exists now, will both end up on Unix and NT on Alpha(with Galaxy/APMP). DEC has a LOT of systems out there still running its great proprietary O/S. Like the HP3000/MPE, it probably will be around a long time.
