I just don’t see it as being so simple - and I’m convinced that if Putin suddenly dies today, their next president would be doing the same thing. He is working in the interests of the Russians (which the people see and mostly support).

Reconstruct the USSR? So that another bunch of gangsters would oppress their own people and kill them by the millions? I’d be shocked if at least 90% of Russians would not be against this. And… they don’t give a rat's arse about any imperial ambitions. Been there, done that. No more.

And… a nation that was overrun by invaders - and enslaved, murdered and abused - hundreds of times since times immemorial - will always have concerns about security. That is something that Americans, happily, left behind many generations ago, as they migrated to the New World.
