Sorry for too many posts, promise to cut down. The explanation is - rightly or wrongly, Russia sees Ukraine's geopolitical stance as something of existential importance - and is willing to fight. To everyone else, it’s a matter of “maybe this, maybe that” - plus bunches of abstract principles and bored bureaucrats, only interested in careers. What is shocking to me is that Zelensky really thought NATO will come to his help. Either that, or he’s simply looking to get more money, weapons - and diplomatic support. In other words, he’s already negotiating.
